Polly Tucker’s progress, as seen in this month’s Equestrian Life magazine

Bristol-based Polly Tucker, of PRT Eventing, competes a string of event horses nationally – here, she shares the ups and downs of her equestrian competition.

I am hoping that 2012 will be a very successful year for PRT Eventing. The season is just around the corner and the horses are all fit and well – which is more than can be said for me, after a minor illness in early February! (It is true that people with horses really don’t have time to be poorly.) Some good news, I have some wonderful new owners on board, who own a mare called ZuZu; my aim is to bring her up the grades in eventing. I will tell you more about this exciting project next month!

In other nice news, I have started training in connection with the British Eventing’s Young Rider programme, as both my horses Blue and Sky were selected. The programme is designed to select a squad to represent Great Britain at the Young Rider European Championships, so this has been the best start to 2012 possible!

With the recent chilly, snowy weather and hard ground, it has been tough bringing the event horses back into work after their mini holiday, but Blue has been doing lots of road/hill work and hacking, which seems to be working really well. Sky has been quietly ridden on our arena to get him ready for his first event, and Fred has been ticking over through the winter. The horses really enjoyed their warm stables and cosy rugs in the snowy conditions!

I am looking at some events as major possibilities for this year; they include Swalcliffe Park, Gatcombe and Howick/Goring Heath in March, and Ascott Under Wychwood, Hambleden International and Withington Manor in April. All the horses are now BE registered for 2012, and we are just excited for the season to get going again!

As usual, I continue to use my RS-tor rider safety aid when schooling or competing in unaffiliated XC events – I feel so anchored to the saddle, especially when the horses are feeling spirited! See www.rstor.co.uk. I am pleased to report that RS-tor has decided to sponsor me again in 2012, which is wonderful news! I have some very supportive sponsors, and they do make a difference, and help me achieve my riding goals.
